Bent County Newsletter

Display board guidelines

Display boards must measure 4 feet wide by 3 feet tall. ​Make them fun and organized with pictures, objects, ​and easily readable text. The text must be readable ​from 3-5 feet away and is often achieved by using ​large bold letters. We will have boards to purchase at ​the Extension Office for $11.25.

Bent County fashion ​revue

The Bent County Fashion Revue judging will be ​held at the Bent County Community Center on ​July 29, 2024, beginning at 10:30 AM. Attached ​to the newsletter is the Fashion Revue Narrative ​that must be completed and turned into the Bent ​County Extension Office by July 19th. Rehearsal ​will be on July 29th at 9:00 AM. There will be a ​public viewing at 5:30 PM also held at the Bent ​County Community Center.

Concession Stand Sign-UP

Fair ENtry Corrections

The schedule will be open for concession stand sign-up for the Bent County Fair starting July ​8th. There will be someone in the Extension Office to take your request on a first come first ​serve basis from 8 AM to 4 PM. Feel free to call 719-456-0764 or stop in. Requests will only be ​filled by phone call or office visit. Please remember ALL 4-H families are required to take a shift ​in the concession stand during the Bent County Fair!

A list of all Fair Entry exhibitors and their entries is ​attached with this newsletter. Families have until ​July 3rd to submit a written request to make a ​correction. Please email the Bent County Extension ​Office at ariel.eddings@colostate.edu, or bring in a ​written request to the office. If there is no one in the ​office please leave your request in the mail box.

Horse Written Test

Members enrolled in any of the horse ​projects will have to take a written test. The ​leveled written tests will be given on July ​25th at the Bent County Extension Office at ​4:30 PM.

Cinema Movie Film Theme

Prowers County 4-H ​Shoot

Two Shot Goose Club of Prowers County will be ​hosting a 4-H Shoot on July 20th. There will be team ​and individual prizes. The divisions are as follows: ​seniors, women, men, and youth 18 and under. There ​is a limit of 5 people per team. The cost for a team is ​$125 and $30 for individuals. All proceeds will be ​considered donations to the Prowers County 4-H ​Council Ambassadors. Please see attached flyer.

Fair Grounds Clean up

Fairgrounds clean up will take place on July 25th ​beginning at 5:30 PM at the Bent County ​Fairgrounds. Lots of things happen during a short ​time, so please read this section carefully:

  1. Every 4-H member is required to participate in ​this event. Members will need to bring ​cleaning supplies, wheel barrows, rakes, ​shovels, etc. to help clean stalls/pens, ​bleachers, restrooms, and exhibit buildings.
  2. Every member has a drink contribution for the ​concession stand that NEEDS TO BE ​BROUGHT TO CLEAN UP, AND SIGNED OFF ​FOR IN THE CONCESSION STAND!
  3. When we are finished, we will have a pot luck. ​Each family is asked to bring a side dish or ​dessert.
  4. Council meeting will follow the clean up.
  5. Every member who attends the clean up and ​BBQ will receive a one-time swim pass to the ​Las Animas Pool to use during the week of fair.

Hard work pays off! Come celebrate with your ​peers and your family to kick off the 2024 Bent ​County Fair!

Bent County Royalty Contest

Bent County Royalty is back! Try outs for Queen, ​Queen Attendant, Princess, Princess Attendant, ​and Tiny Tot will be held on July 7th at 5:00 PM at ​the Bent County Fairgrounds. Contestants will give ​a 1-2 minute speech, model, and perform a horse- ​riding pattern. Winners will attend all shows during ​the Bent County Fair to hand out ribbons. They will ​also travel to other counties for rodeos and ​parades to represent Bent County. If you have any ​questions please contact Heidi Cook at 719-688-​0831.

Pen Decorating contest

There will be a livestock pen College Game Day ​themed decorating contest at the 2024 Fair. You must ​supply your own decorations. Those with livestock will ​be allowed to decorate their pens. An award will be ​given to the winner.

Fourth of July Background

Bucket Calf Show

The Tiny Tot Bucket Calf Class will be Thursday, ​August 1, at 9:30 AM. It is open to all youth 4-7 ​years of age as of January 1 of current year. ​Participants do not have to be a 4-H member to ​partake in the fun. All exhibitors will receive a ​participation ribbon and small bucket filled with ​donated prizes. Please return the form (attached to ​the newsletter) by July 15 to the Extension Office.

BENT COUNTY TINY TOT BUCKET CALF ​CLASS

The Tiny Tot Bucket Calf Class will be Thursday, August 1, 2024 @ 9:30 am.

Rules:

  • Open to all youth 4-7 years of age as of January 1 of current year.
  • All calves must be orphans, which are bottle fed or bucket fed.
  • The bucket calves must have been born after March 1, 2024 and before June 15, 2024.
  • Calves will be shown at halter. Use of show sticks not allowed. No clipping can be done.
  • Calves are not eligible for the Livestock Market Sale.
  • All exhibitors will receive a participation ribbon and small bucket filled with donated prizes.
  • Exhibitors do not have to be a 4-H member (Cloverbud) to participate in this class.
  • Calves will be shown August 1, 2024 at the beginning of the Bent County Fair Beef Show.

Entries are due in the Extension Office by July 15, 2024.

Fashion Revue Narrative

etc.) When you wear your garment, what do you imagine that you would like to do when you wear it?
