Add/Drop Deadline

Members wishing to either add or drop a project have until April 15, 2024, and must complete the two-step process. All additions and drops must be done in writing, and on 4HOnline. The form must be signed by both the member and their parent/legal guardian. Add/drop forms are available at the Bent County Extension Office, on our website, and attached to the end of this newsletter. Once they are completed you must can bring them into the Extension Office or email them to coopext_bent@mail.colostate.edu. Remember, you must be enrolled in at least one project to maintain you 4-H membership, and to participate in 4-H activities.

Beef Weigh in was February 25. Attached to this newsletter is a list of all the participants with their entries. Please let the Extension Office know if there needs to be any corrections by calling 719-456-0764.

Fair Book Changes

Please be aware of some of the changes in the 2024 Fair Book. Some of the areas that have changes include:

Project Runway

Available to those 8-18 years old. It is an overnight camp April 5th and 6th in Cheyenne Wells. Decorating or designing shoes will be the project. More information will be sent out once available.

Hunter Safety Classes

There will be Hunter Education Classes held in Las Animas on March 18th, 20th, 22nd, and 23rd at the Extension Office. If you are wishing to do the shooting sports projects you are required to have your Hunter Safety Card. Donations for Smokehouse Creek Fire

The Smokehouse Creek Fire is the largest fire on record in the state of Texas with over 1,000,000 + acres burned and is still largely uncontrolled Fort Bent is starting a drive to help relieve the families affected by this devastating event. Items that can be donated are as follows: water, non-perishable items, flashlights, chargers (portable), blankets, first aid kit, personal hygiene, baby supplies, fencing supplies, money, etc . Donations can be dropped off at the Winter Livestock Parking lot March 8th or 9th from 10 AM to 2 PM. Or you can drop them off at the Extension Office and Ariel will take them to Winter Livestock on March 8th. Please refer to the attached flyer.

Dog and Horse ID must be completed in 4HOnline by May 1. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS DEADLINE. If you need help finding where to enter that information, please contact you club leader or the Extension Office.

SMOKEHOUSE CREEK FIRE ​DONATION DRIVE

The Smokehouse Creek Fire is the LARGEST fire on record in the state of ​Texas with over 1,000,000+ acres burned and it’s still largely

uncontrolled! This fire is affecting agricultural communities just like ours, ​as a result, we are starting a drive to help relieve the families affected by ​this devastating event. Supplies collected in SE CO will be dropped at ​Gruver FFA (donation site in the panhandle of Texas). They will be ​distributing donations to those in need.
